There are generally 3 types of patients

  • 1. The clocks that confirm a week before, arrive at 5:00 PM sharp or 15 minutes early.

  • 2. The uncommitted that require constant reminders, confirms last minute (if they remember) and arrives at 5:11 PM because "that’s still a good time”.

  • 3. The people in between who strive to be a clock but may have some prior engagements occasionally.

I, along with most people, are the third type of patient. We are called the general populace: part of the 3.3 billion working class individuals striving to maintain the perfect work/play ratio every day of our lives.

Overview

I designed an app featuring a springboard of features that empathizes communication and productivity between therapists and patients.

Problem

User Problem

Therapists had no way of knowing if their patients was going to cancel or reschedule last minute.

❗️Data revealed that:

  • 68.2% of therapists have had last minute cancellations.

  • 63.6% of therapists express having a “no show” from a confirmed appointment AFTER they’ve driven to a patient’s house or planned an activity.

Business Problem

Lost time for therapists. Low patient turnout causing business to drop.

Discovery

I started with the hypothesis that creating a self-service cancelling feature would help enhance communication and productivity. To validate my hypothesis, I collected 22 survey results and interviewed 5 users.

💡 Both therapists and patients express feelings of disappointment with cancellations.

💡 Both therapists and patients have wasted time driving to their destination.

💡 Patients feel upset when their therapist provide unexpected feedback.

Prioritize

Due to time constraints, I prioritized the Minimum Viable Features to build and test for IasoCare.

Results

  • When onboarding, all participants expressed the overall process was “easy”, with screens appearing “modern”, “clean”, and “easy to navigate”.

  • When cancelling an appointment, 5/5 users (100%) during initial testing had issues completing the task compared to 1/5 (20%) users during second testing.

  • When uploading homework for a patient, 4/5 (80%) users expressed superficial feedback such as UI placement, typos, and suggested additions during initial testing. During second round of testing, feedback geared toward app functionality was expressed by 2/5 (40%) users.

Conclusion

I am delighted to say that with IasoCare’s added cancellation feature, communication and accountability was increased by 80%. IasoCare’s homework feature also induced a 40% increase in patient progress. 👏🏼
